.75" Unidentified Proetid Trilobite - Jorf, Morocco

The is a very inflated, .75" proetid trilobite from Jorf Morocco. The preparation is very nice and the genal spines have been prepared free of the rock. There is a second, partial trilobite of the same species near the edge of the rock.

There are probably dozens of very similar looking proetid trilobites from this area of Morocco. I keep going back and forth on what genus I think this might be, and would probably take an expert on Proetid trilobites to say for sure.

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet with over 25k described species, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to a hard exoskeleton (shell), they left a excellent fossil record.
