16" Natural, Red Quartz Crystal Cluster - Morocco
This is a HUGE, red quartz crystal cluster from Morocco. The red coloring is completely natural and due to the presence of iron oxide within the crystals. The entire cluster weighs over 25 lbs and has crystal points projecting from all sides so that it can be displayed in many different orientations. The points have nice terminations with some of them being more tabular in shape. The entire cluster measures 16 x 10 x 9.5". You rarely see red quartz clusters this large.
Silicon Dioxide, also know as SiO2 or Quartz, is the second most abundant mineral in the Earth's crust. Quartz crystals generally grow in silica-rich, hot watery solutions called hydrothermal environments, at temperatures between 100°C and 450°C, and usually under very high pressure. Quartz veins are formed when open fissures are filled with hot water during the closing stages of mountains forming, and can be hundreds of millions of years old.
