Two Fossil Leaves (Beringiaphyllum) with Insect Predation! - Montana

This is an association of two fossil leaves both of the species Beringiaphyllum cupanoides. These leaves were collected from the Fort Union Formation near Glendive, Montana. The dark orange/brown preservation contrasts well against the shale, and many of the details in the leaf can be seen in good relief. There are some touchups to the surface of the leaf where some of it flaked onto the negative during collection. One of the leaves has undergone aggressive insect predation prior to fossilization.

This specimen includes an acrylic display stand.
