Four Detailed Fossil Flies (Plecia) - France
These are four beautifully preserved fossil flies (order Diptera) of the genus Plecia, collected from an Oligocene-aged shale deposit near Cereste in Southern France. The largest fly measures .57" wide and both show detailed leg, wing, and body preservation. A partial fish can even be found on the reverse side.
This is part of an old collection that we recently acquired. The collection includes a variety of insect fossils from around Southern France, collected over a span of 50 years by a woman with PhDs in paleontology and pharmacology.
It comes with an acrylic display stand.
