Fossil Ray (Cyclobatis) From Lebanon - 4.45"

This is a 4.45" long fossil ray of the species Cyclobatis major from Hakel, Lebanon. It has gorgeous dark reddish-brown preservation that contrasts well against the lighter colored matrix. The rays are some of the rarer types of fish in this famous Lebonese lagerstätten.

Please Note: A portion of the tail of this ray is a COMPOSITE from another specimen as it was running off the rock when found. Otherwise there is no restoration or color enhancement on this specimen.

The Upper Cretaceous, Lebonese lagerstätten yields some of the most exquisitely preserved fossil fish in the world. Over 80 genre are currently described, with many more still awaiting description. These beautiful fossils have been quarried near Byblos, Lebanon for well over a century and include sharks, rays, shrimp, ray-finned fishes and more.
