Partial Hadrosaur (Edmontosaurus) Metatarsal (IV) - Wyoming #233813

This is a 9.1" long, partial IV metatarsal of an adult hadrosaur (Edmontosaurus annectens), collected from our partner's lease on the Lance (Creek) Formation in Niobrara County, Wyoming.

There are repaired cracks through the anterior edge of the proximal epiphysis. Repaired cracks can also be found the diaphysis of the bone. The distal epiphysis has been cut away from this metatarsal.

Hadrosaurs

are frequently referred to as duck-billed dinosaurs and are members of the Ornithischian family Hadrosauridae. They were fairly common herbivores that roamed Asia, Europe, and North America during the Upper Cretaceous Period. Many species of Hadrosaurs had distinctive crests on their heads, some of which had air-filled chambers that may have produced a distinct sound. These crests may have been used for both audio and visual display purposes.
