This is a gigantic, mass mortality plate of large Asaphid trilobites collected near Taouz, Morocco. This natural, non-composited plate is 68" wide and there are over 70 complete or near complete trilobites along with a few partials. They are all prone and dorsally preserved, and the largest of the trilobites measures 6.8" long. The orange coloration is due to the oxidization of iron pyrite.

There is no significant restoration on the plate which is quite impressive considering the sheer size of it. It makes for a breathtaking display piece.

We can have custom, wall mounting hardware install upon customer request, depending on the display specifications.

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
