5" Piece Of Indonesian Amber - 23 Million Years Old

This is a large, 5" wide piece of Miocene aged amber collected from West Kalimantan, Indonesia. This piece broke off of a larger polished chunk, so only one face of it is polished.

Under both short and long-wave UV, the amber fluoresces a vibrant blue-purple color, as well as reveals the waves/layers that formed during the deposition of the amber.

Amber is fossilized tree resin that frequently contains inclusions such as plant matter, fungi, and insects. This amber comes from Indonesia and is believed to have formed during the mid-late Miocene, about 10-20 million years ago or older.
