1.49" Allosaurus Tooth In Matrix - Colorado

This is a large 1.49" long tooth of Allosaurus fragilis from the Skull Creek Quarry near Dinosaur, CO. It was left partially embedded in the sandstone matrix in which it was found, so that it stands up on it's own. This is a large, Allosaurus tooth as most average around 1" in length. There are a number of crack repairs, and the last .4" of the tip has been restored.

It comes from the Salt & Pepper Quarry at Skull Creek, near Dinosaur Colorado. This tooth came from a sandy layer in the quarry about a meter below the layers that contain articulated dinosaur remains. This sandy layer contains teeth and tumbled bones fragments but no articulation, most likely representing an event such as a flood.
