This is a 1.4" fossil horsetail (Annularia) stalk from the Carbondale Formation near Coal City, Illinois. This specimen is a section of stalk with three, leaf whorls.

Annularia is an extinct genus of plant, closely related to modern horsetails, from the Late Carboniferous, Pennsylvanian aged forests.
