Cluster of Kayserops & Gerastos Trilobites - Mrakib, Morocco

This is a fantastic cluster of four complete Asteropygine trilobites (three dorsal & one ventral) and a couple of Gerastos collected near Mrakib, Morocco. It comes out of the horizon frequently collected for the "devil horned" Cyphaspis. The Asteropygine are trilobites which are likely of the genus Kayserops are fairly uncommon in this horizon. These Kayserops are all just over an inch in length and the entire piece measures 3.8x3.6". Only some minor restoration along repaired cracks.

It comes with an acrylic display stand.

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
