7" Polished Newman Opal Slab - Western Australia

This is a beautiful, 7" wide polished slab of "Newman Opal", collected near the town of Newman in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. This specimen contains small, black dendritic inclusions, and has been polished to a mirror like finish on one side. It forms as nodules and veins in the saprolite (clay) overlying a large serpentinite outcrop.

There is little information on this type of "opal", however it's likely that it bares the same hydrated silicate mineralization as opal, hence the name. Though it does not contain the "fire", that opal is commonly known for displaying.

It comes with an acrylic display stand.
