5.7" Silvery Amethyst Cluster With Metal Stand - Uruguay

This is a truly stunning specimen of silver colored quartz from the amethyst mines near Artigas, Uruguay. It was mined from within a pocket in the basalt and features "stalactites" with a secondary growth of sparkling quartz crystals. The quartz is actually colorless, however the dark matrix beneath gives it the appearance of being a silver-green color. I can pretty much guarantee this incredible piece will look better in person than in the photos.

The entire piece is 5.7" tall, 3.6" wide and stands 7.4" tall on the included custom metal display stand.

Silicon Dioxide, also know as SiO2 or Quartz, is the second most abundant mineral in the Earth's crust. Quartz crystals generally grow in silica-rich, hot watery solutions called hydrothermal environments, at temperatures between 100°C and 450°C, and usually under very high pressure. Quartz veins are formed when open fissures are filled with hot water during the closing stages of mountains forming, and can be hundreds of millions of years old.
