4.9" Polished, Banded Aragonite Sphere - Morocco

This is a beautiful polished sphere of banded aragonite, collected and polished in Morocco. This sphere displays brown, tan, white and translucent bands of aragonite and likely calcite. It measures 4.9" in diameter and is accompanied with a wooden display stand for aesthetic presentation.

The sphere is nicely polished, though it's not a "perfect"sphere. There are spots of uneven polishing that can give it a slightly wonky appearance, dependent on the angle viewed.

Aragonite is a carbonate mineral, one of the two commonly occurring crystal forms of calcium carbonate, the other form being calcite. It is formed by biological and physical processes, including precipitation from marine and freshwater environments. It's crystal lattice differs from calcite, resulting in a different crystal shape. Aragonite forms naturally in most mollusk shells, and as the calcareous endoskeleton most corals.
