4.6" Ruby Red Vanadinite Crystals on Pink/Orange Barite - Morocco

This is a gorgeous, specimen of red vanadanite crystals on a bed of pink/orange, bladed barite from Mibladen, Morocco. The color of the crystals transitions from a ruby red to more of a brownish color as you move from one side of the specimen to the other while the barite transitions from a pink to an orange. The specimen measures 4.6" across at it's widest point and comes with an acrylic display stand.

Vanadinite is a mineral belonging to the apatite group of phosphates, with the chemical formula Pb5(VO4)3Cl. It is one of the main industrial ores of the metal vanadium and a minor source of lead. A dense, brittle mineral, it is usually found in the form of red hexagonal crystals.

The lead and vanadium in the vanadinite can be harmful if absorbed into the blood stream by inhalation or ingestion. The crystals won't pose a health hazard just sitting on a shelf but it would be recommended to wash your hands after handling.
