This is a large, 23.5 lb natural smoky quartz crystal cluster from the mines in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The entire cluster measures 14.2" wide and has a flat base, allowing for aesthetic presentation without a display stand. The majority of the crystals are in excellent condition, though some of the larger crystals have undergone minor polishing of the termination facets. Two crystals along the edge have been stabilized with glue.

Smoky quartz is a grey-brown to black variety of quartz. This common name is derived from the appearance of smoke within the quartz crystal. Depending on the location and the chemicals present during formation, smoky quartz can appear opaque black, but it is typically translucent to some extent. It is believed that the quartz gains this color from a combination of natural irradiation and aluminum impurities.
