Lot: 4" Perisphinctes Ammonite Fossils - 23 Pieces

This is a wholesale lot of 23 Late Jurassic, Perisphinctes ammonite fossils from Sakaraha, Madagascar. They are all about 4" wide, +- 1/4". The entire lot weighs 11 lbs.

At the lot price each ammonite is fossil is less than $8/each and they can easily retail for several times that amount.

Ammonites were predatory cephalopod mollusks that resembled squids with spiral shells. They are more closely related to living octopuses, though their shells resemble that of nautilus species. True ammonites appeared in the fossil record about 240 million years ago during the Triassic Period. The last lineages disappeared 65 million years ago at the end of the Cretaceous.
