Lot: 10 Lbs Polished Ammonites (2.5 to 3") - 38 Pieces

This is a wholesale lot of 10 lbs of beautiful, polished ammonite fossils from Madagascar. These ammonites are Late Cretaceous in age or approximately 110 million years old.

There are 38 ammonites in total ranging from 2.5" to 3.1" wide with most being closer to 3". They have all been polished and some have some iridescent shell preservation, while the sutures underneath the shell can be seen on others.

At $150 for the lot, that is just over $3 per ammonite fossil.

Ammonites were predatory cephalopod mollusks that resembled squids with spiral shells. They are more closely related to living octopuses, though their shells resemble that of nautilus species. True ammonites appeared in the fossil record about 240 million years ago during the Triassic Period. The last lineages disappeared 65 million years ago at the end of the Cretaceous.
