Ginkgo also known as Maidenhair Tree, is a genus of gymnosperms (evergreen) or plants whose seeds are not protected by fruit or other body. There is currently only one living species, Ginkgo biloba. In North America there was likely never a wide diversity of species, perhaps one or two species. Ginkgo has been used as a food source and medicinally for over a thousand years.
