Flying Metacanthina (Asteropyge) Trilobite

This is a gorgeous chocolate colored trilobite of the species Metacanthina issoumourensis often referred to as an "Asteropyge" or “Kayserops”. It has been prepared so that it "flys" on a pedastal of matrix and the rock has been removed from underneath it's edges. This style of preparation requires and immense amount of skill and is extremely time consuming. The surface detail is amazing and the eye facets can be easily seen. There is no significant restoration on this specimen.
