Exceptional Cordania Falcata - Black Cat Mountain

This is an exceptionally preserved specimen of a pretty rare trilobite out of the Haragan Formation, Cordania falcata. This was one (the best one) of only three specimens that Bob Carroll had available from the full year of digging at the quarry at Black Cat Mountain. It's quite large for the species at .89" long, very inflated and has gorgeous shell preservation.

Black Cat Mountain produces a limited number of arguably the most beautiful trilobites in the United States each year. Each specimen is meticulously prepared by Bob Carroll under microscope to expose the smallest details. This is a very time consuming process taking many hours but yields spectacular results.
