Cute Curled Asaphus Kowalewskii Trilobite With Stalk Eyes

This is a cute, partially enrolled specimen of the long, stalk-eyed trilobite Asaphus kowalewskii. It is Middle Ordovician in age and was collected at the Vilpovitsy quarry in the St. Petersburg region of Russia. The stalk eyes likely allowed to survey it's surroundings while remaining buried in the mud.

Like basically all of these Russian Asaphid trilobites there is some shell restoration, where the shell fractured during collection. The shell restoration is about 10%, and it is primarily on the top of the axial segments and along the repaired crack through the tail.
