.92" Cambrian Paradoxides Trilobite Fossil - Czech Republic

Here's a specimen of the classic trilobite Paradoxides gracilis from the Czech Republic. It's just under an inch in length and beautifully preserved. The cephalon is crushed and the anterior most portion of the cephalon runs off the rock.

It comes with an acrylic display stand.

Bohemian trilobites (central Czech Republic) have been collected and studied since the 1700's. Within this relatively small area of only a few hundred square miles there have been nearly 1300 species described. It was made famous by a french scientist Joachim Barrande who dedicated much of his life in the 1800's to studying and describing Bohemian trilobites. His work is world renown and deeply influenced work in invertebrate paleontology to this day.

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet: over 25,000 species have been described, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to their hard exoskeletons (shells), they left an excellent fossil record.
