9.5" Polished Petrified "Colla Wood" With Azurite & Malachite - Turkey
This is 9.5" wide, polished slab of petrified "Colla Wood" from Turkey. This rare petrified wood exhibits partial replacement with vibrant copper based minerals such as Malachite, Chrysocolla and Azurite. This vibrant mineralization is particularly append on the back/rough side of the piece.

Collawood is perified wood interspersed by patches of brightly-colored copper minerals. This wood was fractured at some point and water containing copper-related minerals flowed through those fractures, leaving deposits with their distinctive colors. Some of the minerals are deep blue azurite and deep green malachite. Still other minerals are chrysocolla, with its light blue to teal colorations. Some of the surfaces are opalized, leaving a chatoyance that changes colors and brightness as your perspective changes.
