4.1" Fossil Leaf (Davidia) with Insect Predation - Montana

This is a 4.1" fossil leaf (Davidia) from the Fort Union Formation near Glendive, Montana. The dark orange/brown preservation contrasts well against the shale. Many of the details in the leaf can be seen in good relief, including signs of predation by insects along one edge of the leaf. There may be some touchups to the surface of the leaf where some of it flaked onto the negative during collection.

Davidia is a member of the sub family Nyssaceae, a member of the dogwood family.

This specimen includes an acrylic display stand.
