3.4" Pennsylvanian Fossil Calamites (Horsetail) - Alabama

This is a 3.4" fossil horsetail Calamites branch, from the Pottsville Formation, Cumberland Plateau, Alabama. Calamites is an extinct genus of jointed-stemmed plant, closely related to horsetails. It is from the Late Carboniferous, Pennsylvanian aged forests that formed the coal shales of Eastern Kentucky and Ohio. This specimen is very well preserved, retaining some of the plant material.

It comes with an acrylic display stand.
