2.95" Zlichovaspis Trilobite - Laatchana, Morocco

This is is a detailed, 2.95" long specimen of Zlichovaspis rugosa from Laatchana, Morocco. It has good shell detail and is very nicely prepared with clear eye facets in both eyes. It's in a slightly arched position and both genal spines have been prepared free of the rock. There is about 6-7% shell restoration on this specimen along repaired cracks and then much of the right genal spine has been restored.

Trilobites were a very diverse group of extinct marine arthropods. They first appeared in the fossil record in the Early Cambrian (521 million years ago) and went extinct during the Permian mass extinction (250 million years ago). They were one of the most successful of the early animals on our planet with over 25k described species, filling nearly every evolutionary niche. Due in large part to a hard exoskeleton (shell), they left a excellent fossil record.
