2.6" Fossil Jellyfish (Essexella) Pos/Neg - Illinois
This is a 2.6" fossil jellyfish (Essexella), preserved in an ironstone nodule, from the Carbondale Formation near Essex, Illinois. This specimen is both the positive (convex) and negative (concave) sides of the fossil. It is the the arms of the jelly, the bell (body) is missing. Soft bodied organisms are rare in the fossil record making this specimen a unique addition to a collection.
