2.5" Stalk-Eyed Asaphus Kowalewskii Trilobite - Russia

This is a 2.5" long (including eye stalks), stalk-eyed trilobite Asaphus kowalewskii. It is Middle Ordovician in age and was collected at the Vilpovitsy quarry in the St. Petersburg region of Russia. The stalk eyes likely allowed to survey it's surroundings while remaining buried in the mud.

Like basically all of the asaphid trilobites prepared from these quarries there is some shell restoration. It's mainly in the center of the head and is less than 5% of the shell in this specimen.
