14" Fossil Gastropod (Haustator) Cluster - Damery, France

This is a huge plate of fossil gastropods and clams collected near Bordeaux, France. There are at least three types of gastropods present with the most common being Turritella sp. The fossils have been wonderfully prepared by hand to remove the limestone surrounding them. They are Early Miocene in age (Burdigalian Stage) so 16-20 milliion years old. The sandstone has been meticulously prepared to expose the tops of these shells. Really a beautiful piece.
